139.5kwp Solar Panel Installation at Fort Stamford, Health & Fitness, Plymouth
Project Overview
Fort Stamford, a health and fitness centre in Plymouth, Devon, engaged Excel Energy to design, install, and maintain a state-of-the-art solar power PV system. Their goal was to install commercial solar PV panels on their leisure centre facility in Plymouth, enabling their facility to provide eco-friendly energy resources with a high-quality and reliable system. This would reduce their carbon footprint and their reliance on the national grid.
The project featured the installation of 328 Trina solar PV modules, complemented by SolarEdge inverters and optimisers to maximise optimal energy generation.

Installation Process Design
Installation:
We installed the 328 Trina Tier 1 425Wp solar modules on the rooftop of Fort Stamford. The installation also included 4 SolarEdge SE10K Home Wave inverters and 1 SolarEdge SE66.6K Synergy Manager to convert the generated DC power to AC power efficiently. Additionally, 109 S440 and 111 P850 optimisers were installed to ensure each module operated at peak efficiency, even in shaded conditions.
For the solar mounting system, we have chosen the Schletter Fix Z 15. The location of Fort Stamford is situated deep within a valley, and the Schletter Fix Z 15 provides an excellent angle for optimal energy generation. The Schletter bracketry fits perfectly on the side of the trapezoidal crown, providing a robust and sealed fix.
We also offer the SolarEdge optimised system, which provides superior performance, ongoing monitoring, and maintenance benefits. As one of only a handful of SolarEdge preferred partners, we can offer warranty extensions on these products. If you wish to increase the standard 12-year warranty for the inverters and 25-year warranty for the optimisers, we can accommodate that as well.
Maintenance:
Post-installation, Excel Energy provides ongoing maintenance to ensure the system’s optimal performance and longevity.
The Outcome
The solar installation at Fort Stamford was highly successful, achieving significant energy production and environmental benefits:
