Sustainability Through Solar Energy

The Sussex Yacht Club has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by installing a state-of-the-art 27.72kWp fully optimised solar PV system. This initiative aligns with the club’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint while enhancing energy efficiency.

Excel Energy provided a comprehensive turnkey solution, integrating high-efficiency solar technology from premium tier 1 manufacturers, including Trina Solar and SolarEdge.

The installation was conducted on a south-facing roof, which presented unique scaffolding challenges due to limited space and an overhanging metal canopy on the terrace. The terrace is a popular area where club members can relax and enjoy panoramic views across the mouth of the River Adur, necessitating careful planning to ensure minimal disruption.

Another challenge faced was if the site was in a conservation area, meaning the project did not fall under permitted development regulations. Excel Energy took ownership of this process and carried out prior approval with Adur District Council to confirm the installation’s validity.

Solar PV System Components and Installation

Excel Energy’s proposal encompassed the full scope of supply, installation, and commissioning of the following components:

63 x Trina Solar 440Wp Panels

High-performance photovoltaic modules ensuring maximum energy generation.

1 x SolarEdge SE25K Inverter

A robust and reliable inverter for converting DC to AC power efficiently.

32 x SolarEdge P850 Optimisers

Planning and Execution

Before installation, Excel Energy faced scaffolding challenges due to the limited space available and the overhanging metal canopy on the terrace. Given that this area is regularly used by club members, meticulous planning was required to minimise any inconvenience while maintaining high safety standards.

Additionally, Excel Energy undertook micro renewable installation planning permission from the local authority to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements. Given the club’s location in a conservation area, Excel Energy worked with Adur District Council to secure prior approval, ensuring the project could proceed without legal obstacles. The successful completion of these steps facilitated a smooth project execution without unnecessary delays.
